Cover Car!

World of Rods May 2010Thought I'd throw a hefty congrats to our build team on Resilience, as the mighty Buick grabbed a cover spot on the May 2010 World of Rods Magazine!

How cool is THIS?! Way back when World of Rods was just a glimmer in the eye of its publisher, we were one of the first to advertise in the book, and it's certainly been through some changes, growing into a very serious book, covering all aspects of the hobby, and even beginning to fill the Custom Rodder gap in some ways, thanks to the efforts of Courtney Hallowell.

This issue, Resilience grabs the cover (with a pair of Circle City hot rods and local boy Craig Smith's Liberace Roadster!), and we're just stoked about the article and David Featherston's killer photography! Huge congrats to our build team of Tim and Carrie Strange, Shawn Ray, David Neal, and, of course, our great friends and prolific car owners, Erik and Paul Hansen!

Artist Feature... and FREE WHEELS!

I have an upcoming artist feature in the relatively new Benchrace Magazine, an online publication geared toward the hot rod community, and loaded with absolutely killer feature articles each month, and I'm pretty stoked, as this is really the first online 'zine to include my work.

Weighing in at nine issues (when the new one hits, anyway), the magazine has already nailed some killer content, including stuff from guys like Jim "Jake" Jacobs, Tom Fritz, our good pal Jimmy Smith, Dan Picasso and more! Hell, it's even had the great Reverend Billy Gibbons on the pages! Good times indeed!

Suffice to say, it was cool when Robert threw the idea out there to feature my art... I'm always stoked when anyone takes notice of my stuff, and it was a good experience! As part of the fun, I was asked to offer up a print as part of his monthly prizedrawing, and I've obliged, offering up on of my signed/numbered and limited-edition pieces, the Mahi Mah-T:

Add to that (by golly, it just gets better and better, huh?) the chance to win a free set of wheels, compliments of Real Rodders Wheels, just for subscribing (it's FREE, by the way), and the icing is on the cake:

If you get a chance, check it out... I think you'll enjoy it.

That's a lot of (expletive) magazines!

One of my all-time favorite cars has always been the ‘57 Chevy known as “Project X”… That yellow, enlarged rear wheel opening-having, hoodless, blown kick-ass pile of performance parts and attitude that was put together in a far different age. Over many years, it was a test bed and ongoing project over at Popular Hot Rodding…. in the days before Pro-Touring… hell, even prior to Pro/Street. Of course, my favorite incarnation of the perennial magazine project car was circa ‘81-’82… the look featured in the movie “The Hollywood Knights”.

The car just had “the look”… Great color, great stance, and superb use of mag wheels. The way this car launched (what is it with my fixation of late with a car springing off the line? Who cares. It’s good.), and hell, even Tony Danza looked cool in it. Looking over some screen grabs from the movie, I came across this one:

…and couldn’t help but think (while peering at the background) that “that’s a lot of fucking magazines there.”

Ironic, considering the car’s tremendous amount of ink over the years. Art and life imitating each other. That may be the deepest thought ever written with regards to a movie that featured farting to “Volare”.

Savor the moment….

savor it….

…and we’re done here.
